and yes, i am currently into another book:souls the gods had forsaken, by ralph modder
its another story of a girl who was brought up in chinatown, singapore, in the "death-houses" (sago lane) which was set in singapore during the mid-1920s.
this book screams out for immediate attention cozz when i was a pri school kid, age 10, our school had excusions to the various places of interests in singapore.and i remember fondly of this huge field with the sign "sago lane" and i questioned the tour guide,"why is it that nothing is being built on this piece of land?"and she told me these was the location for the "death-houses".i was curious but before i could question any further, another fellow mate of mine interupted our conversation and thus..i was filled with many questions.so much so, til this very day i am still puzzled about what occured on this plot of land.shall tell you guys more after i complete this book yah? :)

and i borrowed another book too! :) i suppose these 2 books will eventually help me kill time :p
the book:the bondmaid, by catherine lim
i havent really start reading it yet but i;ll briefly tell you wad i saw on the cover of the book.
it;s set in singapore in the 1950s (dont ask me exactly why i like reading books of this era, i just happen to adore the setting of singapore in the earlier days). its about a little girl, sold as a bondmaid where she grows up with the young heir.all in all, its abt struggles against forces of tradition and tyranny in a household where patriarchs and matriarchs wield inexorable power.interesting eh..try reading it..ahah..will tell you guys more when i;m done :)

and i so wanna borrow the book i;ve been looking for, far and wide, up and down..will someone lend me:sold for silver, by janet lim? * puhlease
oh yah, before i forget, if you are just as interested as what i am in--those real-life, asian struggles of the past, do read this book that i;ve read, when i was a primary school kid..it was donkey years ago but the story just clings hazily in my mind.i like the story and if i am loaded (that is if it is ever possible), i;d prolly buy this book and all the others i;ve introduced earlier on and keep it in a really pretty glass bookshelf (that is if i ever have the time to make one/enuff cash to afford one/enuff space for one, in my room) and this is the book:fallen leaves, by adeline yen mah :o)
